We Use Patient Rated Outcome Measures (PROMs).

At the Neck and Back Center, we constantly monitor our outcomes using validated PROMs so we can measure the difference we make in our patients’ lives. We believe patients are the best judge of their results.

2021 Patient Rated Outcome Results

Spine Surgery – Oswestry Disability Index

Patients rated their back pain related disability at 54% prior to surgery. At 3, 6, and 9 months after stabilization surgery, patients rated their disability down to 32%, 22%, and 17% respectively. 1,4

Back Pain

Patients rated their pain as 5.8 out of 10 prior to surgery. Pain improved significantly to 3, 2, and 1.9 at 3, 6, and 9 months respectively. 2,4

Spine Surgery – Radicular Leg Pain

Patients rated their pain as 8 out of 10 prior to surgery. Pain improved significantly to 2 or less after 3 months. 2, 4

Spine Surgery – Neck Disability

Patients rated their neck condition related disability at 48% prior to surgery. 3 months after surgery, patients rated their disability down to 12%.  This improved to 8% by 9 months which was maintained at the 12-month mark.3,4

  1. The Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) rates disability due to back problems.  (Lower scores are better). 
  2. Visual Analog Score (VAS).  (Lower scores are better with a maximum of 10). 
  3. The Neck Disability Index (NDI) surveys the level of disability due to neck conditions.  (Lower scores are better).
  4. Results are statistically significant (p<0.05)
